What’s up?! We're Hannah (left) and Mary Elizabeth (right), the sisters behind Hint of Mint Designs. These two pictures were taken 20 years apart, but our bond and our love for making silly faces in pictures has (evidently) not changed. Despite the fact that some people think we’re twins because we’re so close, Mary Elizabeth is actually 5 years older. We were born in Virginia, raised in Pennsylvania, and now live in North Carolina (Mary Elizabeth and our headquarters are based in Chapel Hill, Hannah is in Charlotte). Growing up, we tried every possible art project we could get our hands on - we even had a book with 100 craft ideas that we basically used on a daily basis. Needless to say, we’ve moved past popsicle sticks and paper towel rolls, but that doesn’t mean that we’re afraid to throw a little fun and flair into our current projects. In 2016, we launched Hint of Mint to combine our talents and create a brand built on custom designs. Our inspiration comes from the state we call home, our love for puns, and most of all, you. We love working with people of all ages to make their custom project ideas into a reality - from nursery decor to wedding details to pet portraits. Thank you for supporting us and our dreams - you rock!
HINT OF MINT’s STORY
In 2016, Hannah was living in Pennsylvania, getting ready to move away from our family and come to North Carolina for college. Meanwhile, Mary Elizabeth was already in North Carolina as a recent graduate. We both were beginning to revisit the art that we loved creating as children - Mary Elizabeth was teaching herself to hand letter, and Hannah was experimenting with watercolor after her grandfather’s paint set was passed down to her. After texting each other and talking about our newfound passions, we realized that we both had thought about starting Etsy shops for our art. We combined forces, and the name Hint of Mint was created to loosely represent our names (Hannah and Mary Elizabeth Entwistle —> H. Entwistle and M. Entwistle —> H. Ent and M. Ent —> Hent and Ment —> Hint and Mint). Our first year was a time during which we experimented - we tested out different products and techniques, and we made some fun custom work for friends and family! Even though we were just starting, we wanted to put ourselves out there. A little over a year into our business journey, we invested in an iPad Pro and began expanding into digital lettering and illustration. During our third year, we expanded our work by attending local markets and meeting customers like you! With each passing year, we’ve grown our talents, pushed ourselves to complete bigger and bolder projects, and become stronger business owners. We can’t wait to see what is yet to come!
